While I had my chain off the other day I noticed the upper pulley wheel jams right into the largest & 2nd to largest cogs. On further investigation (holding the mech as if chain was fitted, cage just forward from vertical as if in granny combo)the upper pulley wheel barely provides enough room for the chain to run ‘through’ as it (the chain) runs off the wheel and engages the cog.

I’ve never noticed this before but is seems wrong + I’ve had a few chains snap on me and wondered if this might be the cause?

Also, if I waggle (wobble) the cage (90 deg’s from chain orientation) there’s noticeable play – time to replace?
Any advise welcomed.
