Is the cage length determined by just the cassette size, or is it the total range of gearing?
Currently have a short cage 105 mech on 38 x 32 10 sp cassette. I want to fit a 36 cassette – guessing the short cage won’t accommodate it but will a med cage be OK?

It’s the overall range that is important (and cassette size to a point) I think shimano list it on their docs page

think need to calculate capacity which is also a function of what you have up front as rear mech’ has to take up chain slack as well as not hit the cassette capacity will be listed in the shimano technical stuff
