  • Rear Hub Locking Ring – How do I get it undone?

    Right, I'll keep this short…

Rear hub, four sealed bearings, one of which is situated behind a locking ring. I need to replace this bearing! The locking ring also interacts with the freehub pawls to make the wheel freewheel, because of this, when I'm pedaling, I'm effectively tightening the locking ring!

I've had the hub apart, I've had an extension on the spanner to try to create more leverage but to no avail!

I'm also concerned with damaging the rim (it's a Stans Race 7000, therefore not cheap!)

So… Anyone have a cunning ploy to get this ring undone?

Tried this, felt like I was closer to wrecking the rim than the locking ring coming undone.
