As some may remember, I had terrible back problems about 18 months ago, to the point where I went to hospital by ambulance and stayed for 12 days while they MRI’d me then administered nerve blocks as I had 2 slipped disks.
Other than going to physio regularly for 8 months afterward and doing my exercised semi-regularly, I have been fine since. In fact, I have ridden my bike to work every day since February of last year.
Now today, I come home from work at 5:30ish, and notice that I have a bit of a cold coming on. My muscles are a bit stuff, and I feel really drained.
Worryingly, though, my lower back hurts worse than it has for more than a year, and the pain is emanating from the lumbar area of my spine. The thing is, whereas last time it began in a very definitely sciatica-like way, I don’t have any numbness in my hips or down my legs.
By now, I have done my stretches and taken ibuprofen, but is it possible that my back has been provoked by an oncoming illness?
