  • Really odd middleburn X type problem

    Hi

Just fitted some new middleburn X type cranks and came across a very odd problem.

It’s as if the axle is too short. When you try to tighten down the fixing bolt the BB goes tight before the crank bottoms out on the spline. I disassembled everything, it was all put together properly. Adjusting collar fully back against NDS crank, spline tight on DS, correct spacers on Chris King BB, frame exactly 73mm wide shell etc… Eventually gave up and removed the 2.5mm spacer from the BB and replaced with a 1mm spacer and it worked perfectly as per instructions. Seems the BB has some tolerance which is lucky. Must be a Friday pm set that bypassed QC at Middleburn.

Couldn’t find anything else like this online so thought I’d post this in case others have this problem.

Now it’s all fitted I can’t really be bothered with sending them back. They’ll only go in the bin and that’s a shame.
