My daughter has asked for a rc car for Xmas. Very happy about this! However I remember the disappointment of the cheap rc cars I had as a kid so want to get something decent. Ideally for indoor and outdoor use. So suggestion please? Has to have soft tires as we have wood floors!

This looks good but I doubt I can get it to go slow enough. Would last a long time and keep her interested for longer.

Next budget down, again speed might be an issue.

This looks like it could be fun but it might be a bit too slow. I am not sure if she would find it fun enough. We have lots of lego to make obstacles.

These two might be the best options. Smaller controllers, not sure about ten charging as I don’t think you can swap out batteries. Foam tires might be a nightmare on wood.

Or do i just get an argos special? I want something that she will enjoy and not get bored with.

As per my post on the ‘what scalextric for a four year old’ thread I’d save your money and buy a cheapie for now. 4 year olds have a short attention span and having spent £50 on an RC car for my then 6 year old which he’s hardly used since due to it being too fast to use indoors and too much hassle to charge and keep clean/dry outdoors in winter,

I’d get an Argos cheapie and buy yourself them a decent one in a few years time.

Thanks. I will go for a argos special or maybe 1 if the smaller indoor cars.

Argos have 2 for 15 quid on their 12..99 cheapos at present. Worth a bash to see if he wee one likes it I’d say.

We’ve an ‘animus helion’ which, for about £50-60, is a brilliant proper little 1/18 rc car.
Digital controller, fast, and replaceable bits.
Good fun , come the summer new and a few dad’s are going to set up a racing league with them!!

That’s what I bought based on advice from here. It’s fantastic, but too fast for a 6 year old to use anywhere other than a wide open field!

Helion looks great. Maybe a bit fast! Looking at the links above a nikko vaporizer would be a good bet but it looks like it had hard tyres.

    Rockcrawler is great

Have you given an RC car to a 5 yr old? Full throttle and no concern. Repeat until you take it away.

    I’d get a rock crawler.

This is the one I’m going to get mine:

We’ve got that cheap yellow Lamborghini from argos on the two for £15.
It’s pretty good for the price.
Car runs on AA and lasts a reasonable time. Not sure about the remote, we have had to change them yet.
It goes OK outside on smooth tarmac but not much ground clearance for anything rougher.
Also, indoors it’s got a pretty rubbish turning circle so not great at getting round internal corners and doors.
But for £7.50 it was perfect for a 5yo boy who still plays with it on and off a year later.

I would recommend the nikko vapourizer . My daughter loves hers. You can use it indoor/outdoor and in water. Its plenty fast enough, really robust and comes with a proper rechargeable battery and charger. The tyres are soft and perfect for a wooden floor.
