This summer I have decided to do the pedal north route [late July]:

Ravenglass to Ravenscar C2C

Lots of good advice on the site, but this will be my first big multi-day. I plan to do a few 2-3 day rides to check bike, kit, fitness – maybe SDW.

I’m interested in;

1. Training advice

2. Route advice – if any one has done it are there are particular things to watch out for.

3. Kit advice – bikepacking and bike kit. I’ll alternate between camping and some YHA and B&B.

I will be taking my Ragley Blue Pig X as that’s my current bike.

training wise it would n’t hurt to participate in some trail events/ sportives.

I ride with a backpack, but i don’t sleep, go all out
kit essentials; a bottle opener

We are considering this route too. How many days are you planning to do it over? We are looking at condensing it over 5.

The start out of Rglass now has The Esk Trail which avoids to first road bit to Muncaster Castle. A bit further on, forestry work has destroyed the descent from Muncaster Tarn – still rideable, but a bit sh1t. Great from there. You could make Kendal in a day.
