I'm contemplating a more efficient way of using the space in my Defender 110. At the moment, I lay a signle bike down on its side or if moving more than one bike remove all wheels and stand them width-ways upside down.

I'll need a QR mount per bike http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=39590) and a Hurricane Fork Up (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=18596) as Saris dont seem to make a 20mm clamp.

I'd either bolt the mounting system on a plank of wood cut to fit or buy this: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=39583 which looks like a good idea.

    So, my questions:

Has anyone tried this setup, and even better, has it been tried with a landrover?

Would the Saris Traps and Fork Up lend themselves well to a bit of DIY mounting on a plank of wood to save the £50 on the Saris Rack?

Any other pieces of kit doing the same trick I should look at?

    Cheers all

another simple idea might be to hang them by their saddles? you could easily rig up a clothes rail setup across the upper area of the boot space, take the wheels off and hook the saddles over the rail, using something to grip the saddles.

something like a bit of wood with notches cut out so that the saddles wont slide from side to side?
