I’m starting to get a bit concerned at the amount of sugary crap I’m eating when training and racing. I dread to think what it’s doing to my already not great teeth plus it gets sticky and tastes sickly.

I currently do Torq drink, a gel an hour, flapjack or similar plus jelly babies.

Are there any savoury alternatives or less sugary/sticky bits. The jelly babies get pretty ropy after 6hrs in a sweaty jersey.

I stuff a small pork pie in my pocket to break things up a bit. Tastes gorgeous after about 3hrs.

I used to take marmite sarnies, but squish them flat with a rolling pin to take up less room!

Feed zone portables is ace. The rice cakes are a winner. Been trying out loads of stuff in that book and it’s all great.

Feed Zone Portables landed on my desk this very morning. On a first flick through it’s packed full of quick and easy recipes and the science behind fueling and hydrating for a ride. Will have to buy some US cup measures tho’.

    Cheers,

Peant butter is a good shout, calorific and tasty.

Dr Kargs biscuits are good, you can break them up into manageable pieces. The pumpkin seed and emmental ones are lovely. You can get them in most supermarkets.

Nuts instead of Jelly Babies, probably more energy weight for weight. Cashews/brazils/macadamia/salted almonds

    Oatcakes for me.

They work great and also remove the need to think about what you’re going to eat. Grab a packet, go.
