Any tips? I want to change the front ring. Drive crank comes of nicely, but the lock ring that holds the chainring on is wound on so tight from the factory I can’t undo it. I can only thing to put the BB tool required in a vice and use the crank leverage – except I don’t have a vice and am worried about stripping the thread.

Appreciate I may have answered my own question just wondering if there are any pearls of wisdom about…?

I had exactly the same the Stan, tried lots of different ways of gripping and hitting with hammers, but it was only when I did the tool in vice thing that it shifted. Sorry, not very helpful 😕

I couldn’t get mine off either – I took it to a bike shop who managed to get it off with some extreme brute force.

I’ve just managed to get mine off by sticking the chainring in the grass and standing on the crank arm/pedal and then pulling up on the Allen key tool, using an old seatpost over the top. It came off fairly easy then.

    Changed mine on Wednesday.

ISIS tool held in by son, 5foot bar over end of 8″ ratchet drive.

Supposed to be 40NM more like 400.
