If I post an item at the PO, and it just needs a stamp can I still get proof of posting?

and its free. Just a receipt that says when you posted and the post code of where you posted it to. Don’t think it offers any insurance, but I used to post open uni essays off, and had a few not show up, proof of postage stopped me loosing marks for late submissions etc.

All postage offers insurance up to 100 times face value of the stamp. keep the proof of postage. If it’s worth more than £40 insure it seperatly.

And remember to ask for it before you hand over the parcel, they don’t seem to be able to add it on as an afterthought with their fancy computer system. Though if they get stroppy you can get a little hand filled certificate for up to 8 or 9 addresses they should be able to fill in.

In fact next time ask for a few of these – saves time – you fill them out and the post master just stamps it.
