    Depends what are you going to put on D?

    Operating systems then equal.

    If D is storage then 60/40 in favour of D

    i've no idea – never heard of it… its just something my new netbook is telling me to do…

    Essentially that.

    There's no -need- to do it, but if you create a 'data' partition then it's easy to flatten your system partition without losing any data.

    Minimum system partition for Windows 7 is 16Gb, IIRC. I'd either do one big partition ('s what I've done here) or give say 50Gb to C: and the rest to D:.
