Used to measuring my chain with the drop go/no-go style of chain checker for all my 10 speed KMC chains and it’s never let me down. I’ve also checked it using the old 12″/12 link measurement and they always were close to 1/8″ worn too as suggested by Sheldon Brown. Usually get 5-600 miles out of them in all weathers.

My first chain on my 11 speed XT setup is now showing 0.75 on the drop gauge after 350 miles but measuring well under 1/32″ wear using a ruler. It’s a Shimano XT chain so is that causing the difference in the measurements? Or is 11 speed chains only lasting 2/3rds of the life of a 10 speed similar to other people’s experiences?

Both setups are 1x so chainline effect should be the same!
