Looks very much like an Evergreen.
A bit too fancy and fussy for my liking!

I used to store wood that close to mine till one day I came downstairs and the room was full of smoke as it had started to char!

i wondered about that, i did once (under supervision) attempt to get the stove as hot as i could to see if it would have any effect on the logs, but nay.

does indeed look like the evergreen maple thanks!

and yeah it is a bit too fussy, hence me trying to obtain a user manual of some sort!

Why do you want to know? What difference does it make?

    It’s a stove. 😉

Generally they will have 2 vents, an upper and a lower.

When lighting, have both fully open.

If burning logs, once it’s going, close bottom vent and control your burn rate with the top vent.

If burning solid smokeless fuel, close the the top vent and control with bottom vent.

You may have a control to close the grate as well for burning logs.

    That’s about it.

I’m sure some purist will along shortly to correct.

And buy a stove fan, used my for the 1st time last night and it makes a big difference.

ok thanks, sounds straight forward enough.

what about the damper on the flue?

so stove fan, as with anything the prices vary massively – any recommendations?

This is the manual for mine, has a lot of detail on lighting and controlling. Makes it a lot more complicated than it is in reality.

Is that a reflection of the floor in the glass or do you herringbone your kindling?

Looks like an old BD and Co of some sort, or one of the many Chinese copies.

I’ve both a real (expensive) valiant ecofan and a cheap copy ( warrior stoves iirc). Look identical and if anything the cheap one shifts more air.
