Texas are sooooo middle of the road now, they’ve got white lines painted on them.

    Very boring / lazy songwriting

Must have been who was making the noise when I went for my run past the studio earlier. Shame the sound was too muffled to hear properly.

I like Texas, but “bar none”? C’mon.

We now seem to be being treated to an Elvis tribute.

The Friday show is better anyway. (well except you get more of the bad stuff!)

Patty Griffin with Robert Plant are on as well, so that makes two acts worth watching this week, along with QOTSA.
Better hit rate than the previous episodes.

QoTSA haven’t been any good since Nick Oliveri left/was kicked out.

QoTSA haven’t been any good since Nick Oliveri left/was kicked out. He was like their version of Bez. His contribution was mainly getting off his box and waving his dick around whilst Josh Homme played lead guitar, sang all vocals and wrote the songs. Yet when he left they stopped being great.
Have they a new album out then?

I think it’s because be brought a punk ethic to the band that acted as a counterpoint to Josh’s slightly pretentious leanings, giving them a leaner, more direct sound.

Either that or Josh lost it at that point.

    This

In terms of creative energy in music, this is completely apparent to anyone who has a “soul”.
Nothing to do with floppy on-stage cocks, just simple interpersonal musical energy. Have another listen to their albums.

Original un-messed-with first album with boobs on cover is their best album followed by “Songs for the deaf”

Not even sure why you’ve posted those bands in a thread about QOTSA Lifer. They are nothing like them. Those 3 sound to me like heard-it-all-before, cliched old rock bands.
QOTSA don’t sound anything like that to my ears: They write songs.
If that makes them “dad rock”, that’s cool with me.

    Jeez, that Unida is atrocious.

Because John Garcia is intertwined with QOTSA. I don’t think either are ‘Dad Rock’, they sound nothing like Bad Company FFS.

I like filthy noise, I like Unida.

Ah, fair enough. (Doesn’t sound at all filthy to me though) 😉

QOTSA at the Kentish Town Forum (with Oliveri) in 2002 was one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to. Saw them a few years later without him and it was the Josh Homme band, good but still nowhere near what they were. Definitely more than just willy-waving. Hope their new stuff is better than the last album.

Oh sure, there are many filthier bands, but they are hardly clean and more filth than Queens. #itsallrelative

He’s involved in the new album. The overlap between TCV and QoTSA is a bit odd for me. The new stuff sounds more TCV to me.

    From Wiki

In November 2012, Homme told BBC’s Zane Lowe that Joey Castillo had left the band and that drums on the new album would be performed by Dave Grohl, who performed on Songs for the Deaf.[10] Homme also confirmed that the album would be released prior to their performance at the Download Festival in June 2013. In addition to Grohl, other former members contributing to the album include former bassists Nick Oliveri[11] and Alain Johannes[12] as well as vocalist Mark Lanegan.[13]

EDIT: Ah, I somehow missed that shaggy had beaten me to this by a mere 23mins!

Had a sneaky preview of the album and on first listen I reckon it is well up there with their previous albums. (Unlike Daft Punk 😉 )
