    I’m wondering do these sort of things

    carry bikes alright with the front wheel off?

    Could be a good option for getting bars out of the way of the high top when opening the tailgate…

    Probably doable with some extra straps, given the one for the front wheel rim will have nothing to strap on to. Depending on how the things that clamp the frame work, you may have problems getting them to grab somewhere secure with the bike nose-down at a funny angle.

    I always use an extra strap per bike on my tray-mount carrier anyway. Helps stop things wobbling about.
