    Shit and piss everywhere!!!
I appreciate this is the norm.
He’s been here three nights now with last night being the worst. Taking him out in the garden plenty and he’s been shitting / pissing on the snow but his internal volume of shit far outweighs his size it would seem 😆

Get a crate, get a decent size one that can be split half bed, half toilet, at least it will control the area of toileting.

Use newspapers and then transfer some of those to a toileting area outside.

But a young puppies bladder control is tiny, they will need loads and loads of taking outside.

You need t catch it when it starts to go, then quickly pick it up and take it to where you want it to do its business. Outdoors is obviously best, so head for the door. Use the same door when you take it for its regular toilet and watch over it until it does something, then give it praise (but not food!). It’ll eventually associate the outside with going to the loo and will start to ask when it gets the urge, hopefully by standing at the door. Don’t forget to praise when it does it as you prefer.

And remember that this will all be over, once the puppy reaches two years old.

Are you feeding just before bedtime? Ours gets its last feed mid afternoon which gives a few hours for it to pass through the system, a poo just before bedtime, and then manages to last the night.

+1 for crate training. Ours was in a crate every night for the first year and she quick got used to it. Our trainer told us that dogs instinctively do not want to mess their sleeping area so will hold on until they are away from it I.e outside. Pepper’s right though – they have a disproportionate amount of wee and poo inside them, especially if they are fed crappy food which contains lots of grain – they go in as bulk and come right back out again! You’ve just got to keep taking them outside.

Crate training worked very well for us. The first couple of mornings when we came down the stairs he was whining so we took him outside straight away and he did his business. There was a couple of accidents, but we would tell him off while he was mid pish and take him outside. He soon got the idea.

The best thing we did was take him outside regularly and when he went praise him and take him back inside. He loved playing inside more so it was in his best interest to go quickly so he could get back to his toys.

Start introducing a word when he goes, we use toilet. It works eventually!

I used the toilet pads (help control mess and smell) positioned by the door. When pup looks ready scoop them up and put them on the pad, plenty of praise. Pup will start to use pads by themselves, look for the signs of imminent poop then open door, put pad outside, coax pup onto it, poop, praise. They’ll get it, it doesn’t take long. I lived on the first floor of the mess, so essentially one room living and no outside door. Not ideal, but workable.

Woooooo there cowboy, dog post without photo. I’ve reported you, for shame, for shame!

What ever way you train it, you will have shit and piss for a while, sorry.

Reward training is the way we went. Didn’t have a large enough kitchen to accommodate a crate but it never went on it’s bed so never an issue.

Lots of news paper down. When ever it piddled either inside or out we said ‘piddle’. If it ever pissed on the paper inside or went outside it got rewarded. Over a few months the amount of paper reduces to a single sheet inside. Still plenty of praise and treats when it goes outside or on the paper and continue to use the ‘piddle’ phrase when ever it goes. It will link the ‘piddle’command to treats/going outside.

    Finally remove paper.

Crate for our two as well. They seemed to pick it up pretty quickly when they realised that all they had to do was moan and they could go outside. That may have back-fired on us though as they now moan for company, food, Radio 4 and walks.

    Little sods.

And yes, where are the photos?????
