The Gamma headlamp by Alpkit is a great bit of kit (I own one) and often gets great reviews in the forum. A lot of these re-branded far east products have stable mates at the factory that we dont always get to see and arent brought in to the country by the same reseller.

I have found what looks to be a new headlamp by the same manufacturer of the Gamma for Alpkit. Its sold by "Coopers of Stortford" – one of those blue rinse catalogue companies selling battery powered bunion removers and wind-up garden elephant statues.

Their headlamp is marketed as a 3W led compared to the Gamma's 1W. The optics look much more substantial than the gamma, but taking the build material of the Gamma as a guide I doubt it would be much heavier even if the form factor is a bit bigger. As you can see its the same style battery box, but it now takes 3xAA rather than 3xAAA and still has with integrated red LED and the straps are the same, if not as funky, and even the button is the same. Obviously you lose the 3 small LED functionality at the front.

It's a couple of quid more expensive than the Gamma but at £15 I reckon it might make a good stocking filler.

I think Ill get one now and review it "head to head" with the gamma when it arrives.
