Tesco currently have Laphroaig Single Malt Wisky Quarter Cask Strength on sale for about 10p per bottle cheaper than the standard Laphroaig.

Well, it would be rude not to 😀

Does it taste more or less like 3-in-1 oil than standard Laphroaig does?

Depends how much you dilute it!

I have to say, I prefer the standard 10 year old to the Quarter Cask. They’re both good though, and perfectly timed for Burns’ night.

I quite like Laphroaig, but I find the Quarter Cask absolutely vile 🙂

Reminds me of a wee Tesco whisky story. A couple of years back, Tesco, all of a sudden and unknown to the brand in question, whapped 1.50 off the price of a bottle in the run up to christmas, as is their want. Someone hadn’t done their sums, and it backfired, costing Tesco money in the end up.

Tesco then go back to the brand (who haven’t been able to negotiate a rise in their price with Tesco for 4 years) and tell them that they have to pay a ‘levy’ to Tesco. Said brand tell Tesco to whistle, Tesco then say, ‘oh well, we’ll be immediately removing your whisky from our shelves!’

Levy paid. Over a barrel (awful pun I know!). Not really relevant to the thread at all, but I found it interesting.

That goes on with any big chains, be it department stores or supermarkets.

I also prefer the standard Laphroig over the quarter cask.
Their 18 year old is great though, got a bottle of that in Germany for less than what a standard 10 year old cost over here 🙂

standard practice, when supermarkets run promotions they pass the cost on to the supplier.
