Bloody nice Mexico but I want a Toyota Engine in it … 😆

Why do modern cars not retain all the simple curves?

Back in the far east my mates have VW Golf GTi, Fiat, Ford etc, Opel, Volvo, Range Rover, Alfa, Mini … all with Toyota or Honda engine in them. 😆

ps: they like Mazda twin rotary engine very much but they would have to sell their wives to feed the thirsty beast.

    Curves are over rated.

OKay, with the exception of few of them.

Those two are nice … I like! Much!

Best mate has one of the former, and I have one of the latter! The W123 pictured there is a diesel, however, which I wish mine was. Same colour and condition, though.

I had one, NYW 233L if anyone knows of it’s survival……

The W123 is nice but I would transform it into a “gangster” car … 😆

Nope, it’s staying classic. I owe that to the original owner.

I need pics of proof!

I can’t afford one in the UK because of the bloody expensive insurance, etc … in the far east everyone can own one provided they can get parts.

None in my Flickr account at the moment. Will try and dig some up though!

I saw one last weekend on the Isle of Wight. I saw quite a few MK1 & Mk2 Escorts over there (maybe there was some kind of meet on?).

One of my Dad’s mates used to have an Avenger Tiger, equally awesome.

He was a butcher (pork seller not other meat though) and he was a very large (fat) bloke hence the name … 😆 Yes, everyone called him by that name. None PC in those days and he was very proud of that to be honest.

His Capri was better looking than that link of yours.

Nahhh … that one does not cut it. You need late 70s to mid 80s model for Alfa I am afraid.

I remember all the Police back home drove Alfa Romeo. We laughed at them because they were the only govt department that bought Italian cars. The garage loved them because they got paid for fixing them all the time. 😆

One day I’ll scan a pic of my boy racer Mexico and post it up – need a working scanner first!

Great call OP I really enjoyed that. My conclusion, is that nothing has changed other than the drivers are older, much older – about my age! 😉

Have a llok how much a properly restored and original (or close to original) spec Escort 1 or 2 goes for these days. Then tell me it should have a toyota engine in it…….. 😉

The reason we prefer Toyota engines because they are very reliable and parts plentiful. 2AGE was the favourite engine then for all boy racers then we added turbo …

Toyota 4AGE do twin-cam 16v too but obviously nobody knows about this in the west. 😆

The twin cam 4AGE is basically a road going, mass produced version of the Ford Cosworth BDA twin cam racing engine. They share the same bore and stroke (81mm x 77mm), the same size valves (29.5mm & 25.5mm), and in some versions of the 4AGE very similar port shapes & sizes. When fully prepared for racing, they both produce similar hp figures at similar revs, so it would seem that Toyota has done an excellent job with them.

… Contrary to a false assumption that the 4A-G is a copy of the Cosworth BDA

    From here …

My dad is crying into my mothers arms as we speak as he pushed his “big wing mex” into the tip at work some 30 odd years ago after stripping it for bits.
However I’m one of the few that can say that I was brought up in a genuine rally/family car as he also raced it at the same time as using it for the sainsburys run!

Don’t you mean Ford BDA? What about the 1600 Lotus twin cam from the Elan S1, which was fitted to the Mk1 Escort Twin Cam?

Sticking to Toyota engine me but in the UK you need to get the local favourite otherwise there would be new learning curve.

    Some car the twin cam!

Yep, that’s one of the favourite amongst the local boys in the far east, i.e. Toyota Levin particularly, but since most could not afford one they went for Toyota Corolla 1982 saloon (very light car) instead … then stick in the 4AGE. 😆

    loved that program. thanks OP.

You also had the RS Mk1’s and the twin cam.

They hold their value well don’t they… well after a full rebuild anyway
