That’s a bit sexist of you there Juan. Are you suggesting that they are incapable of doing so?

    juan

No they are not incapable of doing so, it’s just that I can’t picture a girl buying clothes without trying them on.

See, that might just be me that projects myself in everyone (no pun here) but this is something I can’t be arse to do.
Plus I do my best not to buy online, but to my local BS and non BS.

Juan, it might just be that most shops don’t stock a good range of female cycle clothing so use the specialist online companies who offer loads of brands and a full range of sizes.

Juan, I think it may be a personal preference thing. Tbh, it would seem that British women will generally buy 3 items from one online shop, knowing that they will only keep 1, and return the other 2. Bit of an odd way to do things, but hey ho.

Actually I have just remembered that my mum to that all the time. So sorry if I have offended girls. Me I am just being a bloke and buy whatever my shop has (or at least I buy one every 3 years)

Bonjour Juan! Hope you are well?

It really is impossible to find a good selection of girlie clothing in the shops. Range of available sizes tends to be very small and I suspect that it’s just not worth shops stocking much.

Also, I don’t know if anyone agrees with me on this, but I find the price of cycle clothing is going through the roof. £90 for a pair of baggies anyone? I just won’t pay that but I have for waterproof shorts which are more practical.

Damn good offers there, shame i’m male…..

Juan – my sister shops and sells clothes online almost everyday,…. most girls I know are glued to asos at work.

CG – the price of everything is going through the roof, not just clothes….. but the flipside of the recession is that if your lucky there are some bargains to be had from places trying to shift stock….. shame BP or Shell dont do it though…….

totally agree with blur lt rider and cinnamon_girl shops just don’t keep a good selection of either items or sizes for us girls, I am definatly going to have a good look on both websites mentioned for some goodies!! Whoever decides to start selling a decent selection has got a gold mine waiting for them!!

You would think that, but our experience suggests otherwise.

druidh – could you expand on your words please?

I personally like Sombrio shorts and my tops tend to be from outdoor brands, ie Lowe Alpine, Berghaus, Helly. Can’t stand jerseys, very unflattering!

CG – as OnionH was going to say…

We find it a real minefield with ladies clothes. We have undertaken polls with our customers, and are even sponsoring Hervelo to get a better understanding of what it is the girls like to see in the clothes.

The colours that we get in are invariably wrong – we have learned now all about things like hair colour and skin tone and fit that we didn’t know before.

It seems (and this has been said by manufacturers also) that there is no way near as much actual demand as you would suspect. The numbers of girls out there to buy tech bike clothing are pretty small in comparison to the male side of stuff. This means that there is always going to be a broader choice in the male section too. Even Gore with the majority of the designers being female on the design team struggle to sell anywhere near as much clothing as you would think they do.

Next week the Gore rep comes up to visit for a Winter order for 2011/12. I will be giving Hervelo the catalogue and the price guide and letting them put the order together. That in theory should allow us to get in the right stuff. Should be fun!

If you were interested in becoming ‘helpful’ and perhaps trialling some kit out and giving feedback then i would be very interested in speaking with you.

Perhaps you could call me later today? Shop number is on the site. There would be some consideration offered to you in return 8)

MMM I’ve had conversations like this with LBS before however frankly I’ve never met a “proper” female MTBer who is that bothered about colour, and when I say “bothered” I mean NOT in white….as how impractical is that!!?? Otherwise as long as it fits and looks okay then I don’t really care, but even on that note I’ve never owned a pair of baggies that look decent, they are all hideous however they now serve a purpose so I’ve stopped caring what I look like on an MTB (thank goodness I’m not single and out on the prowl otherwise no bloke would look at me) 😉

I have always been moer than willing to get involved with manufacturers and help trial kit out. Women’s kit is also always completely random in sizings upon brand and quite expensive.

As for the comment about woman and trying stuff on, they are pretty offensive, as usual all woman get judged by the standards of one you may have met!!! Flipping typical 🙄

EDIT: Gore don’t sell much as they are WAY to pricey! Simple I can tell them where they are going wrong!

Got to agree with M-C, every pair of baggies ive ever tried look comical. Personally most of my ‘cyclng’ gear is in fact running gear, as it’s generally cheaper, and does just as well. The only bit of cycling gear I’ve got is a pair of padded shorts I got as a pressie.

thebikechain – thanks, would be very interested so shall try and call you later today. 🙂

Munqe-chick – yes, I agree with you about sizing hence we need more British manufacturers to cater for the British shape!

I will however defend Gore as I’ve used their stuff for donkey’s years, it just doesn’t wear out. Yes, it is very expensive but I know I can put it on, be it waterproof or windproof, and know that it will perform its duties and not let me down.

Practical clothing is where it’s at. At the end of the day I can slip into my skinny jeans and killer heels and feel feminine. 😉

OOO skinny jeans .. I’d never get my Chris Hoy thighs into skinny jeans 😉

I have spent money on shorts got some Harlot ones from Minx £55 and they have lasted for years hence I can’t justify spending aNOTHER £20 minimum. I don’t mind spending money on quality but not that price.

Sizing is whack too. I’m a 30″ waist so a 12 in “normal” clothes however I normally have to wear a large in cycling shorts . .I dread to think how bigger ladies manage to get technical clothes to fit and we should be encouraging more people but this won’t help!

Arrgh. My card is still wilting from the girlsruntoo alert!!

You’re right that sizing is a bit random, though. I know I’m an unusual shape but still, I spend half my life sending bike clothing back to get other sizes. Have been known to order the same thing in multiple sizes before…

Women’s kit is also always completely random in sizings upon brand and quite expensive.

Well you’ll discover that sizing is random for blokes too. Depending on the brand you need to vary your clothing size, S from fox is ok but on the large side of ok but then M from Mavic is ok on the tight side of ok and don’t get me started on dainese, each year the sizing is different.
As for the prices, my LBS store shorts for men ranging from 95 to 55 euros so not much cheaper than your girl clothes.

Now the difference may be that in general (and I am very much generalising here) casual clothes for men are more expensive than casual clothes for girls. Why don’t ask me I don’t have the answer (the SO just told me that is because we buy very few item of clothing) but owing this difference of pricing 75 euros for a technical shorts or trousers doesn’t seem too much, whereas if you compare that to the 20-25 euros a ladies trousers cost the difference in pricing is more noticeable. Another factor (and to avoid hurting MC highly sensitive feelings I am going to say that is from personal experience) is that girls usually don’t buy clothes to last. The SO’s wardrobe undergoes massive changes depending on the season and the fashion. Mine doesn’t. Stuff get thrown away and replaced when it dies but I don’t buy clothes for the sake of it. Hence why I don’t mind spending more money on it. The SO is still just getting her head around the fact that she might keep the same biking clothes for several years.
