Having been with M&S for a few years and accepting a premium of £550 last year including cover for £15k’s worth of bikes, the renewal came through this year and was £812 !!!!!! for buildings and contents

So after a few looks on here and some surfing we have got the same cover, including away from home cover for the bikes for £270 with another £50 off through top cashback.

The policy is new for old (hence the £15K bikes is all 4 at RRP)

    The firm is Homeprotect

just thought is was worth a post in case anybody is looking to cover their bikes and house

of course this now gives me £600 to spend on bike bits 🙂

With who …… Whos the under writer?

    Whats the small print say

And what are they like t deal with in a claim. Cheap insurance as ive found with cars often isnt worththe paper its written on. Read small print carefully.

Not to say they wont be good but its suspiciously cheap

Standard theft from outbuildings cover £1000. Do you have extra cover or do you keep the bikes in the house?

HomeProtect is the brand of Avantia. Looks relatively healthy from what I can see, and of note to myself they apparently specialise in tricky insurance like flood risks. Many refuse my property because it’s a couple hundred meters from places that do flood but doesn’t flood itself.

Quick look at the policy booklet, it specifies bikes as excluded from personal possessions (which would be away from home) as default. Covers them in the house as standard, but there’s a separate bike section which covers away from home.

Also excludes all the stuff you’d normally find under Personal Possessions such as mobile phones, credit cards, gadgets, laptops, unless specified.

That could be why it’s cheap. It excludes everything then you have to add them. For me I’d have to add loads for things I take with me, on top of the bikes themselves.

You do not need insurance, that guard dog of yours will kill any intruder 😉

You have to list them separately, also have to list laptops, mobile phone and tablets.

they are listed separately at a RRP cost under the section titled

‘high risk items covered within and away from the property’

and kept in a garage with an alarm that’s connected to the house,

    Ah, that’s the dealbreaker.

BTW, the fact that the bikes are in a garage was never mentioned, I think as long as you list them separately they are not part of the standard £1000 from outbuildings, they are covered separately to that clause and subsequently fully covered.

Might give them a try, about to move and renew my insurance having been with M&S, all the expensive stuff (cameras laptops etc) is covered on business insurance so it’s just the 4 bikes for 13k I need to insure as valuables away from home. I’m paying £600 so be interesting to see what they quote.

I got into that ratch with LV a couple of years back, after a good bit of to and froing they decided the bikes would need to be in the house to be covered. YMMV.

Righto you lot, Update on the policy after a phone call this morning and to put my mind at rest after you all had me worried.

Phoned them this morning and if you list the cycles in the ‘covered within and away from the property’ (which is what I have done) then they are covered within the outbuildings.

That price of £270 and then £50 into my topcashback account is with my 4 bikes listed in the above category together with 4 x phone and 2 x Ipads.

So hopefully this puts to bed a lot of the questions from last night.

I don’t know why yours was £800 reedspeed, maybe you live in a higher risk area than me.
