I’ve never used a dedicated GPS – what’s this like for following a pre-loaded route? Wondering if it’s too basic to have a decent map on it.

I did a MTB event yesterday, navigating with a map on the bars – fun, but a quite a mental effort compared to just pressing go on the gps. So made me think about getting one.

It doesn’t have maps. You can upload a course to it and follow the dotted line but it’s not really that good. This is more a replacement for the “dumb” speedo type bike computers you can get but it records the GPS track for Strava/whatever. It’s basically an Edge 500 without the ability to add ANT+ sensors to it.

I use one for route following and it works well for something so basic. Great for routes where there are lots of trails and you have lots of track junctions, also for following routes through forests on forest roads. Because it beeps at you if you go off course you aren’t going to end up going miles off course because you went down the wrong descent.
