“How did we identify who was Taliban? Well, if they shot at us, they were Taliban.”

A friend in the Army at the time said exactly that. The idea that the people fighting weren’t a homogeneous bunch called ‘the Taliban’ was well known from the start. The book “Operation Snakebite” spelled it out from quite early on. OS was a set text on the Army Staff Course.

Just watching this now. Terrifying!
