I’ve never had a major issue with powerlinks – bit like bras, once you have the squeeze and slide technique sorted it’s quite easy. unless they’re rusted shut, or full of muck stopping them sliding so easily (powerlinks, not bras. Although bras are in my experience full of terrifically mucky things too. i digress)

But 10spd, even the re-usable (KMC / Decathlon) ones, are much harder unless in sparkly clean conditions.

So after a galling evening with skinned fingerips and a deadly ‘black man’s pinch’ from a pair of needle nosed pliers, i bought a pair of powerlink pliers.

They will now live in my camelback just in case.

This worked for me. I won’t have pliers on trail, but do carry a chain tool.

thought that would raise an eyebrow. Was a common term when i was growing up, I don’t think it was racist (was never meant to be)

Noun: A bubble of blackened blood trapped under the skin, as is caused when one traps a web of skin in a mousetrap, hits it with a hammer or similar. White kids in the 1970s said it.
