So i need a bike to ride on the road , pull a child trailer, and also for some Xc in the summer. I bought a GT avalanche 2.0 (2007) off here for £130 and set about pulling it apart and changing bits and bobs.

Spec was standard and a bit heavy! First to go were the suntour XCR forks – replaced with some Charge steel rigid forks at half the weight and little change in travel 😉
Bars, stem, seat post, and saddle were changed for Syncros bulk bars, raceface ride seat post, Charge Knife saddle and a Truvativ XR stem. Wheels and transmission were shipped out on here and replaced with some FSA 270 wheels (£100 new from a mate) sram 970 cassette and Deore shifters – combined £37 off here (waiting on an XT shadow mech to finish off (£20 off here 🙂 – bright pink grips for a fiver off ebay – total cost of bike – £270!!

Bit of fettling and tyre changes – off i go 🙂

    What do you think?

**chain will be going on and mech changed/cable sorted obviously**

On the look out for some rebas or air recons with a 185-190mm steerer cheap

axle to crown was the same as 100mm sus forks and got em off a lad on here for £27 posted (brand new)

Looks good Rob – apart from the gash grips.

I'd keep the forks if it's going to be mostly a commuter.
