I wonder if anyone can advise me over a problem I have with work-related expenses? When travelling for work, my company allows us to claim for breakfast if we have an early start, and dinner, even if we are going to be home that evening but late, but they do NOT let you claim lunch. The only time they will let you claim is if there is no access to on-site catering.

    Can anyone help me out?

    Just askin’, like.

    Probably based on HRMC guidance.

We can only claim for dinner if I have an early start and for breakfast if we get back late. No one is allowed to eat lunch.

I have the opposite problem, I’m allowed to claim for lunch, but only if we have a staff canteen, but we don’t, and I bring sandwiches anyway. I think I’m about £8 a week out of pocket.

    Have you checked your shed.

Chances are, its full of meatballs.

Take them for lunch instead. Job done.

    What is your question?

You’ve stated what your company policy is, but not what you want to know.

Do you work for IKEA ?

There’s some plates I’m after but they are a bit pricey, if you can get me a discount you can have lunch round at mine if you like ?

As above. What is your problem? Surely not the fact that you get two meals paid for.

I don’t have a lunch break. Am I out of pocket?

Close this thread and head on over to Molgrips’s whinge-a-thon for the same subject.

Its a discretionary decision by your employer. I reckon you’d eat, whether you got expenses or not.

    What’s lunch?

You know when a rep brings in Hob-Nobs well that’s lunch. Some posh people have it every day.
