Hello excuse the topic but I’m after some advise. I am having some slight discomfort in my neither regions been happening for about 2 weeks, essentially a dull ache. Am assuming its nothing major but either way figure its best to get it checked. However every time I phone the doctors they’re fully booked, does anyone know if there is a specific department I could contact at my hospital (which I work next door to) whomb might be able to help or am I to just keep trying my doctors?

Might be an hernia, then again might be achy ball syndrome, are you married? could it be a mucky build up.
    I’m not a doctor.

For how long? Can you not just make an appointment?

Doctors. If they’re telling you they’re “fully booked” insist on the first available appointment even if it’s six weeks from now. Ask for a telephone consultation. Become a pest . Appear at the surgery and insist to be seen. Whatever it takes. Don’t be fobbed off by a receptionist.

or you could go round martinhutch’s house. He’ll take a look at your junk for you.

Surely you just ask for the first available appointment? This seems like neither an Accident nor an Emergency so don’t turn up there.

Yeah married and not been playing about.

Doctors have said they’re on some weird system atm due to being over run so they can’t book any advanced appointments only ones on the day… shall try again at lunch and see if I can do as you say.

Go to the surgery and refuse to leave until you have shown it to someone. Anyone. Even the receptionist.

Dull aches down there may be nothing. But if its your balls it could be very serious and needs looking at asap.

Why wait until lunch to try again?

our local surgery has two times when they start taking on the day appointments – 9am for morning apoointments and 2pm for afternoon ones. Generally always get in – see if they do similar.

Or just keep trying over and over…

Tell your doctors you’ll go to primary care at the hospital. Bet you get an appointment then. I was told your surgery will get billed if they cant see you by nurse at work. It worked for me but then GP sent me to hospital anyway.

Hmm phoned again fully booked told to ring back tomorrow at 8.30.

Sorry excuse my ignorance I’ve only been hospital twice as an adult thankfully and both times to their A&E. Whats ‘Primary Care’?

I am not a doctor but I had something similar which was diagnosed as Epididimitis – basically an infection (not an STD!) had spread to my bollox. A course of antibiotics cleared it up. Are they noticeably swollen?

Primary care is your GP etc.
Secondary care is the local are hospitals.
Tertiary can is when you get referred to another, usually larger, hospital for specialist treatment.

I thought this was going to be about sheds…

Most surgeries have ‘book on the day’ surgeries. Usually you have to go in and queue up before they open(I do at mine anyway).
Pain in the bum but it usually gets you seen.

Does cueing up get priority over phoning?

Google ‘NHS walk in centre‘ and it will show you the one nearest to you. No need to book, just turn up.

Get well soon. Nice to see STW are being sensitive to your dilemma

Worth getting it checked out, for sure. But be prepared to receive the finger as part of the check-up, if we’re talking about a dull ache in the perineal area rather than just the bollocks.

Going to your local STD clinic is an appropriate option here even though you have not been up to anything. They know balls quite well.

The appointment system you are dealing with sucks. I’d ask for a telephone consultation with a GP, and if they have any sense they will want to see you face-to-face, or nads-to-face. I would genuinely ask to speak to the Practice manager if this difficulty seeing them persists.

My doctors has an appointment book that goes one month ahead and no further. So if fully booked, tell you as much and to ring back the next day early to stand a chance of getting an appointment in one month and a days time before the book is again closed until the next day.

But what i have done in such circumstances is ask for a telephone appointment and then if the doctor feels he needs to investigate my concerns further normally asks me to come in that afternoon.

I’m lucky (in a weird way) that I get priority appointments at my GP due to having had serious illness in the past and being on their ‘watchlist’. The only time I’ve had an issue was with a new receptionist who didn’t know they had a priorities list and I asked if I should go to A&E and tell them my GP sent me – appointment was forthcoming 🙂

Not a doctor. but it does sound like epididimitis. I’ve had a couple of episodes. Not uncommon. It only gets serious if untreated. Last time, I couldn’t work upstairs, it was bad. It can make you infertile though.

Just insist on an appointment at your surgery. Doctors receptionists are little hitlers and seem to take pleasure in being obstructive.

I think it may be time to find a new GP.

EDIT – I agree the appt system sucks.
At present I’m getting phone calls put through to me every 15 minutes. None are about the testes though.
This could be a good acid test for Skype consults I suppose…

our GP surgery only does appointments on the day – start hitting redial button from 0830, usually get through within around 15 mins, usually get an appointment that day, can often get one for late afternoon to reduce impact on work. Seems pretty standard now I think. No advance appointment facility.

Hi all figured is good to give an update in case anyone else finds them self in a similar predicament.

After multiple tries at 8.30 still couldn’t get an appointment so booked into the clinic who diagnosed a hernia which is a relief from some aspects but annoying that it can’t be fixed with drugs… what Tyre’s for Hernias?
