Trying to squeeze a bit more life out of an old PC. Its a Esprimo E5710. According to the spec it’ll take 4GB but when I put two sticks of 2GB in it won’t boot, I get 4 beeps which is apparently a memory error. Tried two different sets of RAM and its the same. Tried googling for anyone having a similar problem and get loads of links to shops selling RAM, all suggesting 4GB would be OK, 100% compatible, etc. Any ideas why its not working? BIOS up to date

    specs here

it says this in the spec:

It also says in the spec…

*4GB with future 2GB memory modules

motherboard pdf says you should be ok is the spec on the memory defiantly correct?

    Technology DDR2 400 / 533 / 667 unbuffered DIMM modules 240-Pin; 1.8 V; 64 Bit
Total Size 256 Mbytes to 4 Gbytes
Module size 256, 512, 1024 or 2048 Mbytes for one module

With a memory con?guration of 4 Gbytes the visible and usable main memory can
be reduced down to 3 Gbytes (depending on the system con?guration).

You may use only unbuffered 1.8 V memory modules without ECC.
    DDR2-memory modules must meet the PC2-4200U, PC2-5300U
    or PC2-3200 speci?cation.

    ah I didn’t spot that. There’s a reason I’m a programmer not a technical bod 😉

    I think its this

The spare RAM I’ve got is 5300P. Oh well thought it might be quick and cheap. Anybody want to swap 2x2GB of DDR2 5300P for some 5300U?
