We’ve recently got a new car and so shopped around for new insurance. Norwich Union were cheaper than the RAC, so we switched to them.

In order to get the three years no claims on the new insurance, we had to get a letter from the RAC to send to Norwich Union.

The letter was taking a little while to arrive, so we got a reminder letter from Norwich Union.

The RAC letter arrived the next day.

Both letters have the same signature and name at the bottom!

We’ve now posted off the RAC letter, with a cover note saying “here is the letter from you which you asked us to send to you”.

    Madness.

I had the same thing with a credit card company once, where they were owned by the same bank. One was GM, can’t remember what the other one was but I think the bank was HSBC

Rang one to check rates of interest and when I rang the next one a different woman answering gave the name of the first one.

Not as good as the NHS:

Old system to see a specialist:

See GP, GP sends referral letter to hospital, appointment made in conjunction with hospital via letter, go to appointment.

New system to see a specialist:

See GP, GP sends referral letter to central referrals hot line, they send a letter to me telling me to use internet / phone to contact central booking. Try internet which says no appointments available, phone up appointments hotline which also says no appointment available but that they will send a letter to the hospital to contact me to arrange an appointment. Get letter from hospital asking why I have missed the appointment booked via the central booking system, receive letter from hospital 2 days later for said appointment 3 days earlier than the letter was sent. So phone hospital, book appointment they say this has been a common problem since the upgrade, NHS then sends me private.

Private, letter sent 2 days later for appointment following week, MRI scan 5 days later, results following week, op 6 weeks later, would have been 3 but surgeon was on holiday.

Previously had to wait 12 weeks on the NHS to see a specialist with 10 weeks to use the MRI and the results 8 weeks after that.

In private industry you get a person doing more than one job and will get cross over. Experience of working in both (note experience) is that there is inefficiency in the private sector but the public sector is far worse.

The insurance companies are efficient on their own terms. They’re getting you to do the legwork instead of having costly systems in place. The problem is that ‘on their own terms’ means ‘profit’, and not necessarily customer service.

exactly the same happened to me

also if you don’t take the first appointment they offer they still book it and cancel it (and send you 2 letters to tell you this) so they hit there targets
