There are lots of truly nasty bikes in this thread...

and lots of the rest are simply trying too hard, to ever achieve beauty.

Ah but do you ride 1549 miles a week on a rigid singlespeed hand crafted in a shed in Canada from vintage unobtanium? Otherwise your opinion isn't valid apparently...

What frame is that, it looks great?

There was a company selling off bankrupt stock with the same frame design and I was sorely tempted to build something like that. I'm going to have to see if they have any left now................

This one used to belong to Lard off here and is probably the prettiest and best put together mtb I have seen in the flesh.

  11. grumm - Member

But why oh why would you want it to say that on the frame?

Yup, bankrupt stock. All of £29 of frame.

I've stuck a 29er on the front and also converted it to belt drive (frame modifications required). It has worn a number of different front ends in the last couple of months, rigid, springer, linkage fork, tele fork, but I think I'll revert it to rigid as I prefer the feel.

flamejob: It may not have been designed for trail use, but that's what I built it up for and what it is being used for. It does the job pretty well.

Edit: I bought 2 of the frames in case I stuffed the frame mods. The second frame has peeling stickers saying TIA which I think is Barracuda .

Yup. Pretty sure they are Barracuda as some others still have the stickers on. None of those frames left by the looks of it. I take it yours is the 16" at that price. IIRC the 18" was a tenner more and if your 'spare' was 18" I might have made you an offer

Never heard of Chas Roberts Grum ?

grum only knows mainstream bikes that are in the magazines. any thing else (like a knowledge of decent historical british frame builders like chas roberts, dave yates or dave lloyd) would make him into one of the pointelss waste of space attentionwhores he so despises.

  18. grumm - Member

No I haven't heard of Chas Roberts, or Dave Yates or Dave Lloyd - am I still allowed to go mountain biking or have an opinion please?

Not sure why you and singlespeedstu have got quite so upset by me

Because I didn't bow down and recognise the inherent amazingness of all bikes built in sheds by men with beards?

would make him into one of the pointelss waste of space attentionwhores he so despises.

Huh? Where did you get that from exactly?

am I still allowed to go mountain biking or have an opinion please?

of course you are darling, but don't start slagging off riders that appreciate the craftsmanship of a frame as well as the function (if we all liked the same stuff, life would be terribly dull) and then expect no banter as others opinions are just as valid as yours and you do seem to have a fairly narrow/stereotypical world view

    Posted 1 year ago #
  20. grumm - Member

I didn't - I stated my opinion then sss decided to be a %^&* to me for some reason. Oh well, I won't lose any sleep over it.

you do seem to have a fairly narrow/stereotypical world view

And you're just such an individual aren't you, as expressed by your fondness for niche bikes - I feel so bland and dull in comparison. Except that this is STW and being niche is the stereotypical view

as expressed by your fondness for niche all bikes

I'm not a nichewhore in the slightest. I've owned bikes by all the major bike companies and lots of small and boutique brands. I own and ride the best bikes for the riding I do, if that's from a boutique brand then great, if a mainstream bike is better I'll use that. It doesn't stop me liking different frames or designs but I'm certainly not going to get all arsey over it.

yes I'm definitely an "individual" but that has nothing to do with bikes.

Do you really think you've upset me.

Looks like it's the other way round judging by how many times you mention me up there.^^^
Maybe a ride every now and again would calm you down a bit.

You can tag along on our group ride with us tonight if you want

I'll even ride my freemincerbike so as not to offend with a bike that's not been advertised in MBR.

    Don't be so touchy Grum.

Chas Roberts is a very well known framebuilder in Croydon. He has a shop (not a shed) but does, or at least did, have a beard. One of his best known creations was the Dogs Bolx, that is why the name is on the frame. It had nothing to do with the owners opinion of the bike, although it is definitely the mutts nuts, chihuahuas chichis, giraffes gonads, baboons ballsack, or whatever else you would like to call it.

Click here for info on DOGSBOLX

    Edit - LOL @ SSS

looks like I am not the only one who noticed stu getting upset

    singlespeedstu chillout ffs

Maybe a ride every now and again would calm you down a bit.

Only if it was on a niche bike though - riding my mainstream brand is such a bland and dull experience. I just don't feel special and different enough.

I could ride my on-one, but that's not really niche enough any more.

Woody - whatever the origin of the name, it's still not what I would want written on a bike.

Yes really Juan......and not just because I used to live near Croydon

I think Bolx de chien has a certain ring to it

    I just don't feel special

You come across as quite "special"

So tell me the Grum am I not allowed to ride my mainstream bikes then as they're dull and bland?
I always find my ride enjoyable whatever bike i'm on. If your's are dull maybe that says more about you than your bike.

How about you tell me which bike i should ride tonight so i can feel like i'm not special and different.
