I'm looking at getting a pair of prescription biking glasses. My regular glasses are ok on the bike but they don't offer much protection from flying stuff!! I don't want to spend a fortune if I can avoid it.

Can anyone recommend a good supplier/manufacturer?

Should I bother with photochromatic lenses?

Don't really want to go for contacts as the idea makes me cringe

How strong is your prescription, how much do you want to spend?
Ignore everything else until you know what you can do.

i like my Rudy Project Ekynox SX very much indeed.

the RX insert system allows you to change lens colour to suit. You get a choice as well as regard cost. You can buy the frame and RX insert for not a lot then choose what grade of lens to get from most opticians. I'm a bit of a lens whore so i went for Nikon lenses with a decent coating and anti reflective stuff. All in was £230 with three sets of coloured lenses.

My prescription is quite light (+.5) but I still get headaches if I don't wear the for more than about an hour.

Hoping to get away below the £150 mark if possible.

you are unlikely to get anything that will stand up to much dirt for that. the advantage of inserts/changeable lenses is that when they get scratched you only have to fork out £10 for a new set of lenses. mind you, it's worth doing some research on pricing though, i have a quite heavy prescription (with astigmatism) so needed to spend more on high index glass as there is a limit to how far an RX insert can correct due to it's size. You may find that you can get them much cheaper than me (i went to a sports optics specialist)

Basically you can pretty much get any type of frame you like, pick one you like and go from there.
I personally like Rudy Project, but unlike MMW I have much more modish flip up Exception frames as my prescription is -10.5. The RP impactX photochromic lenses are very good though.
