  • Powdercoating in Sussex – any recommendations?

Looking to get a full sus frame powder coated over the winter, ideally prefer somewhere local to drop off, discuss and pick up, I’m in East Sussex but don’t mind a little bit of travelling. So, any recommendations from others who have had it done?

I googled for any results on here and found a 6 year old thread so wondering if there’s any more up to date recommendations.

Plenty in the area too, but want a good service, pivots, threads, etc blanked off properly, a company that know what they’re doing when it comes to bikes.

    Thanks 🙂

I know Prestige Cycles in Hove use a couple of frame finishers for their top end custom work (one of which is Fat Creations who produced Steve Peats paint jobs this year). As well as the new custom builds they have also completed a number of resto jobs. However, you will need to speak to them to understand if they can powercoat or if it is just spray work

My mate had his P7 and Trailstar done at clockwork powder coating on lottbridge drive in eastbourne, he was really pleased with them and they looked great.

I used amourtex, they are just on the other side of the blackwall tunnel so wasnt too bad to get to. Paid thE extra for them to deliver it back though.
I did find a few local places that did powder coating but they weren’t frame specialists, I think one was uckfield area.

+2 for Armourtex. Had a steel frame and fork done 2 years ago and continue to be super impressed with the finish. They also went to great lengths to sort out the decals I wanted. thoroughly recommended

    Enigma Bikes in Hailsham.

    Follow the link http://www.enigmabikes.com/services/paintworks/

Scroll down to Respray section; you will need to check if they powder coat or wet paint – wet will give you better depth of colour and if they apply two clear coats you will have hard wearing finish.

They make their own frames and finish in-house so they definitely know what they’re doing.

I’ve talked with them before – about a frame – and found them very helpful; if you take packet of biscuits they’ll put the kettle on……

@g5604: armourtex price varies dependant on frame/fork material, paint only or paint plus lacquer, carbon needs special prep – usually hand sanding – and so on.

@Kojaklollipop: if it was me I would visit short-listed paintshops to see the quality and then decide.

Thanks all, it’s just a simple one colour frame and swing arm with decals, nothing fancy, so hopefully won’t be too expensive. I’ve read somewhere powder coat is more durable than paint for mtb’s?
