After a tough ride, even if I’ve kept myself well hydrated before, during and after, I find I have to continue drinking more than usual throughout the rest of the day and even into the next day. Otherwise I get dehydrated.

Is it just me, or is there a scientific explanation for this?

It’s your body telling you to have a rewarding post ride beer…

Oh, I always have post ride drinks. It’s one of the best parts, feeling those tired legs gently rest into a slumber. In fact I just cracked open an ale now.

In all seriousness though I never have more than a couple.

Yep, beer is the only stuff worth drinking after a decent ride.

A few weeks back I had a couple of cups of tea before heading out. Had 2 and a half litres of water on the trail followed by a bottle of coke when I finished. Got home to have another couple of cups of tea with lunch. Then asked my son what he wanted to do in the afternoon. He said he wanted to go to the swimming pool. It was a bit of a nightmare.
