I have an ageing iPod touch that I pretty much only use for listening to music these days. However, it had songkick on it which was great for finding out about gigs. The version of songkick I had won’t now load up and I can’t download the latest version as it runs on iOS 8 or later. If I check the settings on the iPod it says it’s running iOS 6.1.6 and that no updates are available. I’ve checked the App Store and it looks like I can download iOS 8 but will this just cause my 5 year old iPod to stop working? I can live without songkick but I’d be pretty annoyed if I knackered my iPod by installing some software it can’t handle!

If it says that no updates are available it probably means your iPod will not take the latest iOS.

As Apple update their products they start to stop supporting the older versions by not allowing iOS updates.

    Hope that helps?
