Just bought it, pick it up next week……so who’s had one? What have I let myself into and I can’t wait to pick her up! Always said I’d have a porsche by time I was 30 2 years late and it’s now a new 911 but hey. Dreams and ambitions!

    Anyone experience with one?

A guy at work got one. Great car and he used it to commute as it was plenty reliable apparently.

My Dad had a couple of these when I was a young. A 2.5 lux then a 3.0l S2 in Guards red. The S2 was great and felt bombproof. Proper old school Germanic build quality (more so than the new Boxster that replaced it, it also sounded better than the tinny flat 6). He let me drive it whem I was 17 (about a week after passing my test), I remember the PAS feeling heavier than the non power steering in the little tin box I normally drove. I saw it parked up about 7 years ago and it still looked immaculate.

S1 or S2? I nearly bought the latter many moons ago. I loved the look of it with its fat arches (for the time).

wolf in sheeps clothing at bit, weren’t they? superficially similar to the 924 and pretty different in the result.

I nearly bought one (also 32, also always wanted a porsche). My wife insisted it had to have 5 doors so got a leon Cupra R instead. A little part of me died that day when a dream slipped out of my grasp. By the time I next have the money to buy a decent motor (and not need a sensible car) 924’s, 944’s, 928’s and even 993’s will be rare and too specialist for my pockets.

Enjoy it and know that I’m jealous

    Had a 2.5 lux, S2 & a 924 turbo.

Bloody great cars & wish I’d never sold each one of them. Handle great and respond well to commitment in the bends. Being an older car they feel fast even when not really pushing on that much, but not really that fast on the scheme of things.

    Would love another.

Hang on, is this right: you can get a 944 for about £5k??

Mine was just over £2k and is mint. Insurance is £150 per year for me and hardupmum. It’s a 2nd car to me as my everyday vehicle is a company VW t5 kombi. The itch is about to be scratched and I’ve always dreamt of a porker!

Enjoy it. My neighbour used to have one many years ago (he was Porsche IT manager), very nice looking cars and well made. Going for a drive in it will wipe away a frown and put a smile on your face.

I could have had an RX-7 turbo as my first car, but no, it wasn’t sensible enough, so I ended up with a Rover 214. 😥
Stupid bitch, and she turned out to be a slag! I’ll know next time to purchase first, answer questions later. 😆

It’s was on for 3k and the guy seemed half desperate to sell and half understanding he’d over valued. It’s an 87 2.5 lux with 177k miles they are cheap fun classics

Good cars, assuming you get one that doesn’t have the pox from rust they are pretty solid and reliable.
I had a 993 for a few years and it was brilliant. I’m just rescratching the itch now and working on a 996 Turbo, that and the 4s are the only 996s worth having 😉

Thinking about one of these as a second car when I’ve rebuilt my savings from my impending purchase of a replacement first car.

There was a lovely looking 944 soft top on Autotrader recently for about £3k.

Hope it turns out to be everything you hoped for!

I had an early square dash 2.5 lux in silver with (super itchy) Berber tweed interior. Such a fun car to drive with 50/50 weight distribution and no PAS/ABS to dull the experience. Very tempted to get another!

I’ve got a 91 944 S2. It gets driven nearly every day. We will never get rid of it, it’s part of the family now.

My cousin had one, spent all his money/time fixing it then rolled it down a 20ft bank into a pet shop…

Possibly a fair point, all things considered. Unless you had a money tree out back?

‘Supplement’ is the word you were looking for rather than ‘replace’.

I’ve been looking at 944’s recently and they can be bought dirt cheap. Saw a lovely one which was about £2.5k. 2.5lux, red, 87 plate – wonder if you bought the one I was looking at. Was it in coventry?

Please update when you get the car.

Was the 944 the one James May had on Top Gears cheap Porche Challenge thing?

Now spent most of the morning on Autotrader.

Getting very tempted by some of the 15 year old 911s……

A friend of mine collects 356s, lovely things but I definitely can’t afford to start down that road.

Been tempted by the 944 S2 a few times now! Quite cheap, but I expect parts could be expensive. Currently looking to buy either a mk2 Escort estate or a mk3 Cortina 🙂

So are parts expensive for the 944’s?

    Ive always loved them.

Are the bores not specially coated with something that makes them beyond economic repair if / when worn ?

How many miles can you get before that happens ?

    Crikey. I never knew.

And if you shop round you can get a Porsche Boxster for between £3.5 & £4K.

Always been a big fan of 924/944/968 since I went for a spin in a ex-girlsfriends Dads car many years ago.

Love the clean lines of the early 924’s especially when there dropped with tidy wheels like this

    This 944 looks sweet too

I’ve found spares when looking on eBay etc pretty reasonable. Whole engine for £300 etc there seems to be a lot getting scrapped so second hand parts are freely available. Also bits fit across 924/944/968 too which helps. I’m sure something will cost a fair bit but all cars can cost a lot at some point .

Values should rise too over next few years. I think we are looking at a fair few years until Boxter values rise. Plus I needed a 4 sweater for me and the kids.
