I live in a small block of flats that has a communal cold water tap for the residents to clean their cars should they wish to. I dont have a car (yet) but would like to use this facility to attach a hose pipe to and clean my bike(s). Now if my memory serves I thought the screw thread on tap spouts were or indeed are 1/2 inch BSP. I have bought a hose fitting with this size thread but it wont fit due to the screw thread on the tap spout being slightly larger in diameter than 1/2 inch BSP. Any of you plumbers/pipefitters out there any idea what size this thread could be? The block of flats are at least 30 yrs old and the thread on the tap spout is not noticeably damaged. It also looks a slightly finer thread than BSP. Thanks in anticipation.

most are 3/4 bsp but there are some odd ones out there. Might be easiest if it is an odd size to simply fit a new tap.
