ive been given an old bike (shh..racer..shh) and the bb isnt a regular shell or old cup and ball jobby either.
it seems to "look" like two sealed type bearing pressed into the frame and the axle the the cranks bolt onto is secured with two circlips??
ive been on sheldon brown sit but doesnt see to mention it?

what i want to know is if i get it out will there be threads to take a regular bb?

P.s. its an english bike circa 1980…

I used to have a Viscount frame years ago , it had pressed in bearing cups running shimano ax cranks which despite being crap were years ahead with self extracting bolts in the arms and a splined crank interface.

would've thought the press in cups should be avilable somewhere , have a look on retrobike see if anyone can help.

IIRC viscounts were reasonable bikes at the time.

Just thinking out loud here, but maybe it would take a threadless BB?

only on stw would a vague description of a BB be met within 2 minutes with the make and model of the frame 🙂

They were built in the mid to late 70's, ahead of there time, they came as a complete bike, fitted with some nice sealed hubs, very low gearing, aluminium forks and most importantly duo safety brake levers….they also did a pro version with better parts…..memories of the bike trade back in the day..

Apparantly it will try to kill you if the original forks are still fitted.

    odannyboy,

ive one fitted to my commuter, it took a few attempts to get it to lock up tight, but its been fine for months now

i was going to threadlock it, but didnt need to in the end.
