  • Please recommend me some good puncture resistant 26" commuter tyres

I have just had a run of punctures, 6 in the last 8 trips. Clearly there is quite a lot of broken glass around on my regular commute at the moment!

So any good recommendations for puncture resistant commuter tyres of the 26 inch variety? For winter conditions as well. Thanks! 🙂

conti safety system tyres. I use the sport contact mrs tj the travel contact – they are so good at resisting punctures you get a new tyre and tube if you do under guarantee. I thousands of miles of using them on both mine and Mrs TJ commuter we have had 2 punctures in combined 5 years and thousands of miles

I have also used the marathons and these are lighter faster and ride better IMO

What Kimbers said = Schwalbe marathon plus.

They are heavy and slow but you probably won’t want to fix a puncture in the rain and cold.

    Good training too.

Then switch to lighter tyres in Spring/Summer.

I can recommend some tyres not to buy! Schwalbe Silento 2 with ‘puncture protection’. The latter has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Whilst no tyre can be entirely puncture resistant they didn’t even seem to give it a go. Picked up thorns and flints like they were going out of fashion. Complete nightmare to both fit and remove just in case getting another puncture wasn’t annoying enough.

Put my old Michelin knobblies back on and whilst offering more resistance and noise they’ve been a dream, as they were for a good nine months previously.

Cheers all, I like the look of the Top Contact Winter II tyres on the Conti site. Will be good when it gets colder too!

Looking at the marathon plus as well, how well do they grip in wet / snowy conditions?

Conti SportContacts – very good, roll pretty well. Worth checking any tyre you use on the road regularly too, especially in winter – you can often find thorns, wee flints and bits of glass before they work their way through the casing.

ddmonkey, not great. I use marathons in the summer, small block 8 cx tires in the winter with stans in the tubes.

Specialised Nimbus Armadillo or Continental Travel Contact

Have used both for several years and never had a single puncture.
I would say the Specialised’s are, overall, tougher than the Conti’s, but both are excellent in my experience.

    The Specialised’s are 1.5″ I think, the Conti’s are 1.75″

Good to see recommendations for the Conti sport conatcts.

I’ve been using the 1.3″ versions for my mostly offroad 25 mile commute(not many corners so traction not an issue)

They are fairly cheap and i’ve only had one puncture this year(just cursed myself there!). Another vote for deflating periodically and picking out the debris that will eventually penetrate the tube.

I have been using Continental Town and Country
They dont have any specific puncture protection but they have an inverse tread indented into the rubber rather than knobs sticking out.
I this puts a lot of rubber between the road and inner tube.
They are pretty heavy but cheap £16 and at 2″ have enough volume for a rough flinty towpath.

    grip seems ok

So my local shop has the Conti Touring Plus Reflex. Doesn’t have the free tube and replacement thing but apparently “extremetly” puncture resistant, anyone tried them?

You want the contis with the safety sytem IMO. they really work
