Morning STWers, bought a set of DX SPD’s off eBay, described as having scuffs to the plastic cage, but the bearings being smooth. They’ve turned up, there’s a fair bit of surface corrosion to the metal parts, and some slight play in the bearings. Also, the plastic cage is very loose on the inboard/threaded side, but as I’ve never had these pedals before I’m unsure if there should be any movement there? Either way I’m going to contact the seller about it, just want to know how bad they really are first.

    Cheers

I’ve been running a pair of DX636 pedals for about 15 years now and it’s safe to say they have a bit of play in them these days, but they still work well – maybe yours have been used a bit more than seller let on. I have stripped and regreased mine many times but haven’t actually replaced anything, so I’d just stick them on and see how it goes.

I think there are rebuild kits available if you find they are a real problem.
