  • Planning on getting drunk. Gin content.

I plan on getting very drunk at some point in the future. Normally this would be done with vodka, but thinking of switching to gin as my weapon of choice.

I do my shopping with Tesco, and don’t want to spend over £20. So my choices are:

    Plymouth Gin 70Cl – £24.99 (on offer at £20)
    Tanqueray 1l – £23.00 (on offer at £20)
    Bombay Sapphire 70Cl – £20
Whitley Neill Gin 70Cl £24 (on offer at £20)
    Gordon’s 1l – £18

Also, simple/refreshing methods of dispatching as yet unnamed gin is appreciated. So far, I am just going the Gin Rickey route.

The Gordon’s, is it London or Export? The latter is lovely stuff.

As to method, thin slice of lemon or lime, according to preference, and a good slosh of Fever Tree tonic. And three ice cubes.

Broker’s Gin is supposed to be the good stuff, and pretty cheap too. That said I think you can only get it online.

The Gordon’s as you need the extra £2 for tonic and lemons.

I have a separate budget for accessories.

Personally, if getting very drunk I would avoid gin

I will be buying limes. Might get some lime cordial, though.

Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire from that list beats the socks for Gordon’s as off tonic the best by far.

If your’e just gonna get stupoured what’s the point in spending good money! Just get Tesco value stuff which does the job, & if you use their tonic with a hint of lime it tastes like pop anyway!

On the other hand you can not beat ‘The Botanist’ gin. Made by

Forget the tonic. To a double measure of gin, add a double measure of Campari and the same again of red vermouth. This is a Negroni. Chuck in a slice of orange if you’re feeling fruity. Enjoy.

    Lime. Bombay Sapphire requires lime.

I like Hendricks too – with cucumber.

Plymouth or Bombay Sapphire for me. Former for a martini; latter for g&t. For tonic, really really avoid the cheap stuff. Good tonic makes so much difference.

Plymouth is lovely, Bombay sapphire and tanqueray are good as well. If you have the choice of those don’t bother with Gordon’s.

I prefer limes in my g&t as well.

Yup lime is my choice too.

Oh and to make the Gin go down even easier may I recommended an alternative to Tonic.

Tanqueray as it’s stronger and tastes better. Pop to Waitrose for some excellent cheap tonic water that’s not full of artificial crap.

I tend to have Tanqueray in as it’s mcuh better for making Martinis with but Aldi own brand gin is cheap and good enough for g&t’s.

Bombay or Tanqueray but as you are going to be getting drunk you may as well get whatever is in the biggest bottle for the price.

What is this thing about not being able to get blasted on decent gin?

I am going to get some mascara as well. Non-waterproof, so my tears wash it down my face.

So far. Plymouth is in the lead.

Plymouth gin here too. It used to be one of the stronger ones.very nice.

I always thought Bombay and tanqueray were a bit over rated but with the exception of Gordon’s all will do the job! There’s some French gin in the independent wine shop in Taunton. Looking forward to trying that

I meant out of the two. Current bottles on our booze shelf are Bombay, Tanqueray and Plymouth. One of them is a bigger bottle for the same price 🙂

Did used to have a cheap supermarket bottle to switch to when the night was getting fuzzy.

Tanquery if its the export strength version with the wax seal on the bottle.
Being anal I slice lemon and Lime very thinly and freeze it before adding to the G & T . Tall glass , lots of ice , double measure .

This might just relate to vodka, and be purely anecdotal, but I always found I suffered a bit more the next day on cheapo supermarket booze.

It’s this one, according to the Tesco website:

Tanqueray all the way. Unless you prefer your gin with cucumber in, in which case Hendrick’s.

Aldi apparently does some very good small batch gin, if you have one nearby…
