    Been mulling with the idea of building myself a large shed and lean-to as a log store/undercover work area. Total area about 10×8 metres with a concrete base and bricks up to about knee height.

    It will be a few feet from the nearest border, which is a private lane (not mine).

    Garden is about 700sq metre.

    Is there any planning restrictions?

    I did apply a good 10 years ago to build a double garage in brick and at that time was told by the local council I didnt need planning or building regs but things change all the time.

    Anyone got any tips??

    What you allowed to build without Planning Permission in the UK is set out in the GPDO (General Permitted Development Order). A good starting point is to take a look at the guides on the Planning Portal. http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/
