Many many years ago there was an organisation called IMBA. Some of you oldies may remember it. I helped out a bit and occasionally I still get emails about various things as I signed up as a nominated contact.

One of these just dropped into my inbox regarding planned repairs to Brampton Public Bridleway in Derbyshire. I’m not familiar with the site itself but some of you may be – if you have any views, please fill in their survey. Personally I detest the use of tar spray and chippings as a surfacing material so I’ve made that clear in my response

There’s one bit that’s been unrideable mud for a while, so I’d welcome some “improvement” there, but it’s a shame to do the whole lot.

Is it like that all the way to the stream ? It’s been a couple of years since I’ve ridden it, but it was a nice bit of singletrack.

Then again I did have an altercation with an angry walker there. He jumped off the path even though we stopped a good 10 yards before we reached him, then claimed we had no right to be there.

This is the problem with the off-beat areas of Derbyshire – lots of BWs that are unrideable due to vegetation or water damage, but stripped of any value if DCCC get their hands on them.

The modern (volunteer) equivalent of IMBA is Peak District MTB and although not in the Peak District National Park it is of interest to us.

We will look into it.

Yep – it wasn’t finished in my photo, I guess they’ve top-dressed and compacted it by now.

But, again, there’s no real need to worry about the bit they’re consulting on. It’s a farm access track with a muddy bit at the bottom.

Wonder if the farmer plays golf with a councillor and this is a way of getting his drive way repaired free of charge?
