Has anyone else heard about the Pitchfork Movement in Sicily [Movimento dei Forconi], which started on the 16th January?

Roads and seaports around Sicily have been blockaded for 5 days by hauliers in protest of recently increased fuel prices. This has been a 40% increase, pushing the price to €3 a litre.

Considering that the economy there has been brought to a standstill, It’s a mystery that this has not been picked up on by the BBC.

Simples – it is a ‘quiet backwater’ of Europe…news are not bothered as it is neither sensational, capital city or shocking. Just a bunch of people standing up for themselves. Weird that it is not reported *at all* on BBC.

Have to say, my paranoia has kicked in nicely.

I have family there and the phone line has been very patchy for the last fortnight.

    Unrelated, I’m sure… 😕
