I was given this timbuk2 messenger bag and well..I would prefer another colour or at least something to make it a little less drab.

Now I know I’m heading for a trypical STW amount of abuse and humour but seriously is there any way of adding another colour ?

ie a 3rd panel in orange – paint?

Or what would you do ?

Get some badges, I used to look well cool with my badge covered bag in school, including “vote for pedro” Napoleon dynamite ones.

You know what they say, more badge more va….

Get a cheap hi-viz vest, and take the Scotchlite tape off, then glue or stitch it onto the lid, going over the top from the front bottom of the lid. Breaks up the dullness of the colours, and improves your visibility too. You could alternate with hi-viz yellow strips, as well. You can get the vests for a few quid from markets, etc.

    You need Cross stitch.

I would change the middle panel so you don’t need to unstich the fastener. Unpick the bias binding then unpick the stitches holding the panel in, replace with colour of your choice and with about 5 mins on a machine and it will be a new bag.

    Cheers guys..

I like the idea of sewing a middle panel. My only reservation is that the material is double backed and it would mean sewing through the rubberised backing? Hmmmm

Sticky-backed plastic is the way forward.

How is the panel attached to the rubber backing at the moment?

    Cheers pick n mix

The front panels are back with a rubberised panel to the rear. If you rub the grin panel and rear ( inner) panel they slide.

    If that helps ?

Then presumably it’s sewn together under the bias? Could unpick that as well replace panel and resew everything.

You can sew through the outer and not the backing. I have a load of sew on patches/badges on one of my timbuk2 bags and they went on easily enough without stitching right through. Just took a little longer to do is all.

Easy – buy a Chrome, or at least a few of their badges to sew on 8) .

That stencil looks like a good idea, spray an area of the background white, fairly crudely, with runs, then put the stencil on, it’d look properly urban.
Pointed remark to following motorists, too…

I think it is already a bit flashy – two colours and you want more? 😮

Love the stencilling..a mate suggested a Jackson pollock flick art effect though wouldn’t the psint flake/ peel off ?

Depends on the paint, something that stays flexible when dry, like an acrylic, perhaps, ought to do the trick.
