    I always thought a Phylacteries was a dinosaur, but now I know it's a dude with a box on his head

    actually, it contains a small portion of the Torah – Jewish Scriptures – and is worn by certain Jews who give a very literalist interpretation of a passage which speaks about 'having the Scriptures on your forehead' or something. Other Jews assume it's a figure of speech encouraging them to commit the teachings to memory.
