Ti29er, have I overlooked the posts where users ask you to critique their pictures? What's the constant criticism all about? It rather sours this thread for me. Would you consider not doing it unless somebody specifically asks for it?

    DrP

I've had a look at the website with 'tutorials' as suggested on the first page, but can anyone recommend a book for a beginner to SLR style cameras, but I'm not a 'dummy' by any means!

    Understanding Exposure by Brian Peterson

    Damn good book.

Ti29er is the only person on here qualified to take photos or critique them. (Or at least in his pompous little head HE thinks that).

    Anyway, my offerings, all clicky...

Zokes that 4th pic from the top of your post is stunning.

Cheers Creg! A copy of it's currently on a friend's living room wall as a recent wedding present so glad someone else likes it too!

Well done Threefish and Zokes - I found his comments offensive and no-one asked him for them.
Plus - I've seen his pics, they're not particularly great, plenty amongst this thread are way better.

I could write a page on how his Tryfan pic is a load of carp on another thread. Typical 'it's a snowy mountain so it must be a good photo' stylee...

That skiing one up there by Happysnapper is very impressive though. If he doesn't have a career taking sports photos, it looks like he's found a new vocation!

    love that pic happysnapper.

This is an old snap of mine re-cropped and Black and White. Quite creepy looking I thought...

Took this last night. No PP other than sensor-dust removal. Not bad compensation for an evening of less-than-mediocre shots before I got this on the way home...

Many beautiful shots. My faves so far:

Cyberboy (lol), frozen cross, pier+storm, rainy firetrack

I think I'm drawn to the last three because I feel tension when looking at them. It's an elusive quality, but I do like photographs that do that.

I empathise with the guy on the right:

Perhaps not proud of, more chuffed at actually getting a photo. Five times in the last year I've been down to Glastonbury and been frustrated by weather or the subject not co-operating. I got some better shots three weeks ago but a hard-drive malf lost a year’s photos. Nice people at Farpoint in Bath think they've retrieved them, but I managed to get a couple of shots down on the Levels at Ham Wall just in case last Sunday, before they all fly back to Scandinavia and Russia.
One of our great natural phenomena, Starlings at roost.

Thanks guys for pleasuring my eyes

These are a bit crude - a lazy channel mix from the camera jpegs. I'll need to spend some time working on the RAW file to get cleaner base images and do away with the artifacts.

I really need to get myself a copy of Silver Efex Pro.
