Do I bother to respond? (by forwarding to the company’s email address on website rather than “reply”)
Do I need to change p/w etc? (Nothing has been sent from my email account as far as I can see so guessing this is simply typed in to either the company’s registration software or direct into an email to me. No way is it a typo unless nicolette has a scaredymike-based account too))

    Dear Nicolette ,

Welcome to Lazada, the leading online shopping mall in Malaysia! I am not, nor have ever been, Nicolette – I dont even smoke

I signed up to lazada.com.my using a false name and a spambucket email address. This is what I got back, does it look like this?

    Yeah,

… so what’s the point in somebody doing that? Even if I reply the registrant won’t even know, will they ?

If it’s a sworn enemy of mine signing me up for shit they’re showing a disappointing lack of imagination. Goatporn, fair enough; this, meh

(did yours come from “orders@orders.lazada.com.my” ?)

    Yeah.

So what’s happened is pretty conclusively “someone’s typed your email address into a web form.”

As to why, that’s be anyone’s guess. Could be spam pure and simple – it’s successfully generated hits on their website from me after all. Could even just be a mistake.
