Looking at a frame that has a PF30 bb. I’m still in square taper mode and like them as they last for ages. Are PF30 any good … ominously, the bike’s only done a few hundred miles but the bearings apparently need replacing already – is this normal?

Is it worth trying converting to standard screw thread? Any tips?

    Thanks

I specced the Hope screw together types on my PF30 frames. Worked a treat for me.

Push fit types generally do end up creaking or fretting though.

    I was reticent.

The SRAM plastic thing in my bike was pants.

I’d say if you do buy it get a decent BB in it from the start. Something with replaceable good quality cartridge bearings.

I put a Hope in my bike a month or two back based on recommendations from here. I’ve gone for the one that takes it down to a 24mm axle as I had some nice XT cranks going spare at home that were nicer than the SRAM ones that came with the bike.

The quality appears to be really good and it was a doddle to install with the correct tool.
