When I get out of the shower I smell pretty good, but it doesn’t last really. Even if I do give myself a little spritz of some Izzy Miyake.

Now I had to go out and deal with the great unwashed yesterday, in Peterborough’s premium shopping centre, Queensgate (bring the family!), and every so often it would turn out they were not unwashed and smelled pretty terrific. This is mostly men it seems. So either they are showering every 10 minutes, or it’s witchcraft.

Any ideas how this is achieved, as some of these people smelled like a summer breeze just kicked me in the face…..and not in an overpowering way.

It’s the sarcasm. It makes you stink.

    I reek of it.

Smell fatigue – you get used to stuff you smell all the time, so other people probably think you smell nice (maybe 😀 ) but you don’t notice it any more. Like how you don’t notice the particular smell your house has till you go away for a while and come back.

The thing is that you become used to your own smell so that you no longer smell it.

This is why some folks houses smell of cat wee and dog eggs and they don’t notice.

You probably smell lush to the next man.

    Edit: As above

I smell lush right now, which given the smell fatigue thing explained above probably means I normally smell rank.

take into account their smell fatigue and you realise that you have been passing blokes who keep their Issy in their manbag and re-spritz every ten mins or so.

I smell of freshly mown grass.

Which isn’t a surprise as when I look down my legs below the knees are covered in the stuff.

My wife always smells amazing, even after long bike rides or walks or going to the gym. I have no idea how she does it, I will never complain of course but I have no idea what she sees in me who smells like a drain 5min after getting out of the shower.

My bike clothes often smell like freshly cooked basmati rice after a sweaty ride. It’s quite pleasant, even if I do say so myself.

Go into Boots in Queensgate and wander to the perfume/aftershave area.

I think half of the population of Peterborough walk through to casually have a spritz of whatever fragrance takes their fancy.

I look on it as Boots doing a great service to the noses of Peterborough.

    mrs_oab doesn’t like fragrance/perfume/aftershave, so I haven’t worn it in 20 years…

She does strongly object to eau du hill day however…

    Top tips from me:
1.Roll on deo, not spray. Sanex ideally.
2.Keep the edt in the car for all day gusset wrecking fabulousness.(Bleu for maximum effect, but be prepared for unwanted sexual advances from women, men, cats, trees etc)
    3.Avoid doing any work.

You need to strap a Pan Aroma One Press Air Freshener under each arm pint.

Obviously, but not so obviously that people can see them.

Personal preference is Ocean Breeze but believe Summer Meadow is also available.

Surely a coaster goes under an arm pint?

    I generally smell pretty good.
    It comes from:
    – showering and washing all bits of myself daily (I know that seems obvious but a lot of people don’t)
    – natural predisposition to not be sweaty
    – a very lackadaisical approach to life, both mentally and physically which has me sauntering around at a slow pace without being stressed out.

    Oi! Leave him alone.

I’m lining him up for a job in my Craft Panther Stink Brewery once he’s finished his course.

Remembering “Pocari Sweat” drink from the Eighties, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s already a Craft Panther Stink Brewery in Japan.

Eat less fatty food, dairy products and meat.

    Drink plenty of water.

I always try to keep some fresh moss in my pocket.

Showering in Crabtree and Evelyn West Indian Lime helps when the moss has gone yellow.

I also floss regularly and go outdooors often. But even after all is said and done – fresh pants is best practice. Without fresh pants it’s all in vain.
